A Lesson in Camping

Backyard "Practice Camping"
The boys spent the night outside in the tent in the backyard. We wanted to make sure he would be comfortable sleeping outside before we were more than a few feet away from his bed and potty! They had so much fun hanging out together that it was tough for me to get them to come in for breakfast in the morning!

Andrew learns how to be patient while Daddy spends (what seems like) hours reworking our old fishing reels and tying hooks on! He felt like such a big boy getting to hold a real knife. As a mommy, watching this process, I was trying to keep my distance. I kept wanting to say "Be careful! Don't hurt yourself! Don't fall!" I learned to keep my mouth shut and let Daddy do it his way. Charlie had everything under control and it's his job to teach Andrew how to do things (even dangerous things) the right way. Charlie really came alive. He was in his element outdoors, spending time with Andrew. I got some great pictures of him chopping wood that he wouldn't want me to show you, but I just love them. He's happy. Grandpa Cady enjoyed every minute as well!Amazing. My mom and Charlie surprised me with this little vest just for Andrew. I was so touched! You should have seen how tall I stood, (I know, I know, only 5 feet) when we walked into the General Store at Big Lake. My son, the Li'l Biologist was at my side. Everyone noticed our matching vests and stopped to ask questions. I've used my vest for years while working as a biologist (Allie gave it to me as a graduation present) so it was the stuff memories are made of for me to get a chance to show Andrew what I kept in my vest. We filled his with a magnifier, carabiners, goldfish crackers and M & Ms. This parenthood thing is really wonderful sometimes.

Grandpa Cady enjoyed some bonding time (literally) with Kate. She really loves being held right now, so we all took turns with her in the baby pack throughout the weekend. Kate was a good baby. She looked adorable in her U of A sleeper. Go Cats!

Big Lake, AZ
It was so nice to escape the 112 degree weather for a weekend get away with the family. We made the promise to do it again soon. Andrew actually got to see what the stars are supposed to look like. It made me miss Tucson because they believe in preserving the dark night sky by using less street lighting. You may have noticed the lack of fish pictures here. Well, that's something we will work on! You should have seen the one that got away... it was this big!!!! < ..................................................................................................................................................................>
